The COVID Clinic Support staff will be responsible for assisting the clinic with a variety of services including: sample collection, patient services related to sample collection, processing, reporting, contact tracing, and administrative duties. Multitasking and prioritizing the importance of daily tasks are essential to this position. The position will require competency and comfort handling bodily fluids. The specimen collector must follow lab safety guidelines to include PPE and sanitation related to job duties. This position is part-time, temporary.

Specimen Collection: Adheres to protocols set in place for specimen collection, including but not limited to appropriate patient identification, registration, specimen collection (nasopharyngeal and/or pharyngeal swabs), labeling, requisitioning, and transport of specimens to the lab by courier. Ensures that all safety precautions, FERPA/HIPAA requirements and data entry are accurate and acknowledged during the collection process.

Contact Tracing: Responsible for contacting Meredith students who have been identified as a close contact to a confirmed COVID-19 case. Will notify close contacts of their exposure, determine presence of symptoms, refer for testing if needed, and provide the appropriate isolation or quarantine education and guidance. Essential functions include: following the set protocol for contacting assigned named close contacts to confirmed COVID-19 patients and document all contact attempts and timeframes in a timely manner, use a scripted template to guide the interview process and assure all required questions are asked, education given, and interaction is conducted with professionalism and empathy to encourage forthrightness, maintain daily contact with the supervisor to receive assignments and make sure the needs of the student health department are being met, ensure all case patients are given the contact information for the Student Health Center and resources available through the Wake County Health Department in case social needs arise during the isolation period, explain the importance of adherence to control measures to prevent disease transmission and keep communities healthy and ensure all follow up questions are answered, complete data entry for contact notification outcomes into the designated system accurately and in a timely manner, and support the Student Health Center in issuance of quarantine or isolation orders, when directed.

Supply Chain Management: Assists team lead with preparation of supplies including but not limited to: organizing, packing and stocking supplies. Coordinating specimen collection with the local courier. Assisting team lead with inventory counts and ordering supplies. Supplies include personal protective equipment (PPE), specimen collection kits, etc.
Additional tasks as needed such as conducting well-checks, meal delivery, planning mass vaccination clinics, etc.


A well qualified candidate for this position will possess the following qualities or qualifications:
- Medical Office Experience, Lab Experience, or Clinical Experience; Preferred BLS Certification, NC Nursing License (RN or LPN) or National and NC EMT Certification (EMT, AEMT, EMTP) or Patient Care Technician Certification or NC Certified Nurses Aide
- 6+ months clinical experience associated with license or certification

Job Type: Contract/Temporary, PT (no benefits)
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30AM-4:30PM; hours to be split between the number of staff hired

Preferred Experience:
- Clinical, medical office, or lab
- Medical Terminology
- MS Office to include: word and excel

Minimum Education: High school or equivalent
