Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition

Meredith College invites teacher/scholars who are actively engaged in advancing equity and inclusion in their research, teaching, and/or service to apply for a one-year, renewable faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition.

The successful candidate will teach the core Music Theory and Ear Training sequences, Form and Analysis, Composition lessons, and other courses aligned with their area(s) of research/creative specialty.  The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to implementing the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of one’s practice, and can collaborate with the faculty in developing music curriculum relevant to the needs of twenty-first century musicians. Other responsibilities include participating in departmental meetings and committee work as assigned, and working in partnership with faculty colleagues to recruit and retain students.

Doctoral degree in Music Theory (or equivalent doctorate) by August 1, 2021.  The ideal applicant will have a minimum of two years of experience teaching music theory and Ear Training at the undergraduate level.  Background in Music Technology and Global Music desired.

The Meredith College Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The music program offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, the Bachelor of Music Education degree, and the Professional Performance Certificate. The music faculty comprises five full-time positions, and 15 part-time instructors who are dedicated to supporting a liberal arts curriculum and excellent undergraduate training in music.
